Holup, what is this? DID I SEW FOR MYSELF? why yes i did! and in fact i've been doing it a lot lately it's just the bit where i take proper nice photos of myself, upload them, figure out how to edit them on my laptop that has 0 storage (legit, it won't even do the latest update bc there's no room for it :,) don't buy cheap laptops, kids) and then write a blog post that is lacking here!
HOWEVER i've been wanting to sew these up for a while, it's just been super hard with LIFE and all that, but the Sew My Style project makes me get my butt into gear with this and i'm pretty stoked actually. This pair of Lander Shorts is a workable muslin, because there's a few fit adjustments i'd like to make on the next pair but really they're pretty amazing as is!
So these are the Lander Pants, but as shorts, and i did sew them up with fabric that has a bit of stretch to it. That means that when i sew up another pair i'll have to make sure it's that same sort of fabric otherwise i'll just make another working muslin in non-stretchy fabric. I had a few fun adventures with these! So the measurement chart meant that i was a size 6 on the hips and a size 12 on the waist, i went with a size 6 length and they're a perfect length to be honest. I don't really understand WHY it keeps happening to me, but every time i go carefully by the measurements, i need to take in like an inch on each side at the waist anyway? Should i go a straight size 6 next time? i'm not sure i have the guts for that ahha, but maybe I will?
there's so many butt shots of these shorts but really my butt is my favourite part of my body AND these shorts make it look even cuter! ANYWAY. I was reading through a bunch of reviews first before i started cutting anything out, and cleverly i thought i'd follow miss make's edits on her landers without even trying the standard pattern for myself. turns out i didn't need to add 2" bc i have a really short torso (i'm all leg) so after adding the two inches in height to my pattern it was like, under my boobs which was FINE but my body shape and the stripes weren't working out so great there lmao. It was completely unnecessary for me to do that!
I did alter the front curve of the shorts to match the Ginger Jeans i haven't finished making BUT i did get a perfect crotch curve fit on those so i just traced it onto these landers as well :D
I swapped the butt pockets out for some cute heartshaped ones! I'm going to lower them, they're a bit too high, but I'm living for them, what do you think?? I tried to match up the stripes but the darts in the butt sort of messed up that idea lmao
So i know that it might be different because this is stretch fabric but i had to take it in SO Much at the waist. i did 4cm on each sideseam originally AND 2cm on each dart and then after that I had to take in another 4cm at the sideseams. That's so much. I don't know, I'll sew them up in a straight woven fabric and see what happens but i'm pretty sure i'm not actually needing to be a 12 at the waist?
The waistband was a bit boxy, and i had to take about an inch and a half in at the sideseams after i put the waistband on, but i cinched in a tiny too much. However i love them so much, i don't mind the fit at all even though i can look at it very critically and see all the things i want to change. I have some other fabrics in my stash that don't have any stretch to them that i'd love to sew up for this pattern so hopefully i can bust a few more pairs out!
I didn't have too much trouble with these, really, which was a nice surprise! I did dumb stuff like with the front pockets which would have been PERFECT until i had to take them down and in like 20 times. The pockets are still there, the openings are only big enough for like a dollar to get in there though ahah.
I really enjoyed sewing these! And they're insanely comfy. I just feel i'm at this level now where i want to sew all my own clothes now. I'm buying ready to wear like NOT AT ALL anymore because the fits are so bad and i KNOW i can do it myself so... why don't i? I've been wearing these shorts all afternoon and i legit can't get over how comfy they are. I MADE THEM!
I adore the button fly, it's the first time i've done one and it's surprisingly easy to get in and out of and comfy too! I don't know why i'm so shocked, honestly, i sew kids clothes so much but for myself i just have super high standards I guess. I'm excited though!
