Book Week: Alice in Wonderland

By ari - October 08, 2020

Our school is a little hit and miss when it comes to book week, and last year it felt like the first proper dress up parade day in forever - and of course that was the day we were flying to sydney for a family holiday! The year before there had been a Book Week hat parade, but before that there really hasn't been a consistent annual book week. The kids were a little bummed about missing it, they love being able to dress up (i wonder where they got that from) so I made their costumes in advance. It's been a year but now that I have a brand new computer that actually makes it so much easier to upload/resize/edit and post - expect a lot more content from me!

I used the Georgia dress by Violette Field Threads. It's my go to really, since it's a good fit for eddie and the bodice is easy enough to modify. I use it a lot for most of the "party" dress styles I make eddie like this! It just has a simple bodice with sleeves, and the buttons up the back on a gathered rectangle skirt. Easy! I sewed up the size 6 for eddie.

Print pages 38-44 for the bodices and pages 48-50 for the sleeve. The skirt I never use a pattern for, I just freeball it using the width of the fabric and then however long I want the skirt to be x2 (front & back). For some reason i wasn't able to use the WOF and instead the skirt is 1m across and 34cm from the waist to the hem (that's including the seam allowances!

I self-drafted the peter pan collar. it's not super difficult, you just need the shape of the neckline from the pattern front & back (minus the seam allowance at the shoulder) and then i usually just freehand the collar in the shape i'd like! Most dresses like this I just have the collar as a front feature only, sewing the ends into the shoulder seams and not worrying about having it go all the way around the back. I have no idea why i do this but i do haha.

The apron is from an old sheet and some old lace i found in my stash. It's just rectangles with lace attached everywhere! The leggings are actually this super cute pair of overalls i made eddie years ago. It was going to be for the circus themed Project Run & Play sew along but i never took photos of the end result. it seems to be a running theme for me lately, but it's okay because clothes are made to be worn and not always blogged about haha. They're like a leotard but with leggings attached and a deep scoop at the front for a crop top to be worn underneath. I'll get a proper photo of them one of these days, but for now this girl wears them a LOT and it makes me stoked.

Vincent was Karma Akabane from Assassination Classroom - but, you guessed it, i have 0 photographic evidence. I think he's grown out of it already, but i'm going to try and get a flat lay at least or something. I need to chronicle my makes or i forget i even have made them! Nova doesn't go to school, but as if he's going to miss out on Book Week. He was was Blinky Bill and i DID take photos and i will blog about that super soon!
