The Addams Family

By ari - October 11, 2020

Edison has had a Wednesday Addams dress in various forms her entire life - ever since she was a tiny little newborn. Her middle name is Wednesday, so i made sure this is going to be a thing. I'm hoping to still make her Wednesday dresses even when she's all grown up - whether she wears them or not!

I've always wanted to make the other Addams kids' outfits, but it wasn't until last year i realised i actually had the correct number of models!

The kids absolutely loved it and really got into character - eddie watches one of the Addams Family movies at least once every fortnight before school haha.

Vincent (Pugsley) wore a pair of leggings i'd already made him a little while ago. These costumes were made last august (heck lol) and althought for 10 years this kid lived in and loved leggings - he has now grown out of it. He was always so fussy about his clothes, didn't like them baggy, but now he's eleven his tastes are changing and it's pretty cool. I remember having issues with family members about him wearing leggings, it was so irritating because i firmly believe kids (and adults) can wear whatever they want to wear - as long as they're happy and comfortable why does anyone else get an opinion? Anyway i upcycled the fabric from a black maxi-skirt i thought i would wear and never did hahah, the pattern is the Jennuine Designs basic leggings which comes with the dressage leggings so you have some pretty cool options there!

His shirt is the Rowan tee by Titchy Threads, it's my go-to TNT basic t-shirt pattern but also it comes with a few other options (like sleeve stripes and a hood) so it's pretty versatile without having to get into hack territory straight up! The fabric is from Spotlight! I did a straight up size 7 and it looks pretty nice on him - this kid just really suits stripes!

Eddie's Wednesday dress this time is the Groove Dress by Made It Patterns. I've used this pattern so many times, i am absolutely in love with the shape. I hacked it by adding cuffs to the sleeves and a collar around the neckband. I don't love the way the collar sits but i've since perfected it (that's another post!). It's the size 7 - i just realised both Eddie & Vin were in size 7s here - however hers is big on her and that's fine. She doesn't grow much, but this dress isn't so big it's unwearable!

She's such a creep in real life, i adore her.

Alright so Nova's Pubert onesie is a hot mess but let's just not focus on the little mess ups (the zip, that neckline) and look at how flipping cute he looks with extra eyebrows and a moustache! I used the rolled hem romper from Brindle & Twig and look, there are a billion more patterns that would be better suited to this but i didn't want to buy a whole new onesie pattern and just hacked the one i had aha. I've made him so many onesies from it, hacking the button placket into a zipper and they're seriously so great for upcycling t-shirts! This one comes from a grey skirt I op-shopped solely for the soft fabric!

I added black scraps of knit for the cuffs and neckline and got the spider applique off ebay. He still fits this onesie, which is weird because he's like twice the size he was here (he's a tank of a kid), and it's been worn a billion times to bed. We love zippered onesies in this house!

I am well aware there's other members of the Addams Family missing but hopefully in the future I can make the other outfits! I really do deserve a Morticia dress this year...
